John was born March 16, 1926 in Blackwood, New Jersey the son of the late John M. Bakley and the late Sarah Ranier Bakley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Norma Celeste Bakley; a son, John Lamar Bakley; and a sister, Jane Russell.
John was a retired United States Navy Petty Officer First Class. He served his country with honor for twenty years. John was a World War II and Korean veteran. After John’s honorable discharge from the Navy, He worked at Glynco Golf Course for thirty- seven years. He was also an American Legion Post Nine and Fleet Reserve Association member. John was an active member of Lakeside United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Adult Men’s Group. He also was a Scout Leader and was on the Eagle Board for over twenty years. John was also a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
Left to cherish John’s memories are his daughter, Diann Cook of Brunswick, GA; two grandsons, Scott Cook of Brunswick, GA and Donovan Cook (Lisa White) of Fort Pierce, FL; one great grandson, Hunter Scott Cook of Brunswick, GA; a niece, Barbara Vincent of New Jersey; one great nephew, Kevin Vincent of New Jersey.
John loved to spend time with his family and friends, He enjoyed attending Lakeside Methodist Church and the Christian fellowship. He also enjoyed woodworking. John will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends between 1:00 – 3:00 PM Friday, October 5, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral service to honor John’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Don Coombs officiating. The burial will follow the service in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Eagle Scouts from the Coastal Area District will serve as active pallbearers during the service. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lakeside United Methodist Church Men’s Group.
