Jim Edward Cox, 72, of Waverly, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 8, 2010 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Grimes and Rev. H.P. Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park with Bruce Deveger, Tony Chasteen, Corey Knecht, Lewis Anderson Sr., Lewis Anderson Jr. and Barry Spivey will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of The M and M Hunting Club and former Employees of Georgia Pacific Bestwall Division.
Born May 8, 1937 in Blackshear, Georgia to the late Clayton and Rosa Belle Keener Cox, he was a retired electrician with Georgia Pacific Gypsum Division. Mr. Cox had been a resident of Camden County for the past 38 years and was a member of Antioch Holiness Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon. Mr. Cox was currently employed with South Georgia Electric, Inc. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. Mr. Cox enjoyed living life to the fullest, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Laverne Soles Cox of Waverly, a daughter, LaQuita Spivey and husband Silas of Brunswick, two sons, Christopher E. Cox and wife Pamela of Waverly, Thomas B. Cox, Sr. and wife Kelly of Waynesville, six grandchildren, Lana Chasteen, Rosa Marie Knecht, Holly Renee Cox, Barry Spivey, Thomas B. Cox, Jr. and Matthew Cox, two step grandchildren, Michael Bowen and Samantha Womble, one great granddaughter, Ella Knecht, a brother, James J. Cox and wife Sue, a sister, Frances Thigpen and husband Billy all of Brunswick and his mother in law, Nellie Mae Soles of Waverly.
