Jean Knight Bryan, 90, of St. Simons Island, died September 12, 2024, at Community Hospice Center for Caring at Baptist Medical Center South. Born November 22, 1933, in Dexter, Georgia to the late Marguerite Faircloth and Millard Eason Knight, Jean had been a resident of St. Simons since 1959. She earned her degree in Elementary Education from Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville Georgia, and taught fourth grade in Waycross, Georgia, and Marin County, California. In addition, she was a substitute teacher in Glynn County. Jean and her late husband, Tom, owned St. Simons Drug Company until they retired in 1999.
Jean was an active member of St. Simons United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, President of United Methodist Women, and in many other capacities. She was a past officer and member of St. Simons Cotillion and enjoyed playing bridge.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Bryan, senior, and a brother, Don Eason Knight.
Jean is survived by her four children, Thomas Edward Bryan, junior (Patsy), Donna Bryan Godbey (Patrick), Cynthia Bryan Sweat (Dwight) all of St. Simons Island, and Walter Eason Bryan (Lisa) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Joy Knight Hind (Edwin); and two nieces.
A private interment will be held at Christ Church Cemetery, St. Simons Island. Rev. Marcia Cochran will perform the service.
