Janis is affectionately known as Jan by her family and friends. Jan was born May 11, 1947 in Brunswick, Georgia and is the daughter of the late Ira Marvin Manning and the late Maurine Hazel Manning. She was a graduate of Glynn Academy and attended College of Coastal Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Brunswick, Georgia. Jan retired after working forty-five years in Medical Billing with Medical Services of Glynn and Southeastern Pathology. She was also a member of College Place United Methodist Church and a member of the Co-Ed Sunday School Class. Jan’s greatest accomplishment was being a loving mother and the world’s greatest Mimi to her grandchildren.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Ira M. Manning and Maurine H. Manning; a sister, Linda Dadin; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Thomas; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer L. Manning. Left to cherish Jan’s memories is her husband, Ronnie Smith of Brunswick, GA; her daughter, Suzanne Allen Sapp of Brunswick, GA; one grandson, Spencer Manning Allen of Brunswick, GA; and a granddaughter, Sophie Maurine Sapp of Brunswick, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends between 1:00 – 2:00 PM Friday, March 30, 2018 at College Place United Methodist Church. A Memorial service to honor Jan’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 30, 2018 at College Place United Methodist Church with Dr. Bill Daniel and Pastor Bruce Arnold officiating. The interment will follow the service in Palmetto Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers during the service will be College Place Co–Ed Sunday School Class, Dr. Matthew Certain, Dr. Antonio Moran, and the staff of Hospice of The Golden Isles.
Jan loved to spend time with her family and friends. She always cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Jan will always be remembered for loving the Lord, being a southern lady, and always willing to help others. She volunteered often at the Mana House. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
