Jan was born in Jacksonville on September 30, 1949, and she spent most of her life here. Jan attended Wolfson High School and Florida State University. She worked for the Jacksonville Port Authority as an administrative professional for over 10 years. Jan's interests and talents made her a true Renaissance Woman. She sought out unique pieces of art, antiques, and ceremonial masks during her travels in the U.S. and abroad. For several years she served as Co-Chairperson of Marshalls at the TPC. As a skilled horsewoman, she competed in dressage events. Additionally, she was an outstanding amateur photographer. Jan loved to entertain and she often planned and hosted social events of all kinds. Most importantly, Jan treasured her family, friends, and fur babies, and our lives are richer because of her.
Jan was predeceased by her mother and father, Jessie and Loren VanDusen. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 34 years, Mitchell; her mother and father-in-law, Sallie and Mitchell B. Owens; her step-son, Mitch and his wife and children (Jean, Brooke, and Mitchell.) She will also be remembered and missed by all of the extended Owens family and her many close friends. A special thanks and appreciation are sent out to her care-givers, especially Regina, Ashley, Yvonne, Jennifer, Michelle, Morada, Uju, and Mary Ann.
A funeral service will be held to honor Jan’s life with Reverend Paul Owens and Dr. Barry Owens officiating the service.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for memorial contributions made in Jan's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, North Florida Chapter, 8940 Western Way Suite 16, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
