On Friday, December 1, 2017, Jamie K. Spell, age 53, departed his life at M. D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. Jamie was surrounded by family and friends as he lost his battle with liver cancer after several years. Jamie was born to J. E. Spell and the late Betty V. Spell in Appling County. He graduated from Appling County High School, and then he served his country in the United States Marine Corp. Later he moved to Brunswick, Ga., where he joined his father in construction. For many years he was an independent flooring contractor and was known for his exceptional talent and skills. When he was not working Jamie enjoyed the outdoors boating, scuba diving, or hunting with family and friends. Jamie enjoyed creating spaces where family and friends could gather for celebrations.
Jamie is survived by his father, J. E. Spell of Brunswick, Denise Bennett Spell his wife of 23 years, six children, Jeramie Spell, Jonathan Durrence (Amber), Michael Durrence, Kinsley Spell, Morgan Spell all of Brunswick, and Collin Spell stationed in Texas with the USAF. Jamie also leaves his sister, Jammie Voncil Poppell (Craig), of Brunswick and a brother, J. R. Spell of Valdosta. Jamie was blessed with five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor and longtime friend, Carlton Rowell will lead family and friends in a memorial service with military honors at the residence of the family on December 30th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity or organization.
