James Eddie Smith

Eddie was born October 22, 1952 in Brunswick, Georgia the son of the late James Tyler Smith and the late Martha Ann Smith. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School and a lifelong resident of Glynn County. He was a devoted husband for forty eight-years to Dian Smith and also a devoted father. He loved his grandchildren and treasured every moment they spent together. Eddie was a Shrimp Fisherman and owned his boat Two Girls. He later became a Seafood Broker and was owner of Eddie Smith Seafood which owned Eddie Smith Logistics. He was a faithful man that believed in the power of prayer and was a member of the Golden Isles Church of God in Brunswick.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, James Tyler Smith and Martha Ann Smith; his precious daughter, Brandie Smith. He is survived by his loving wife, Dian Smith of Saint Simons Island, GA; his wonderful daughter, Beth Smith of Brunswick, GA; son, Michael Smith of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren and Eddie’s pride and joy , Michael Smith, D.J. Smith, Desarae Wood all of Saint Simons Island, GA, and Chastity Lockwood of Brunswick, GA; a son-in-law, Daniel Wood of Saint Simons Island, GA; one brother, Donald Smith (Sara Ruth) of Brunswick, GA; two sister-in-law’s, Jean Smith and Ronda Owens both of Brunswick, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Eddie was a family man that loved to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also avid gun collector and enjoyed the sport of archery. Eddie was an outstanding athlete that love to play baseball and later in life softball. He was a weightlifter and help start South Georgia Bar Bell. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.

The family will receive friends during the hours of 12:00 – 2:00 PM Monday, July 24, 2017 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The family cordially invites you to attend a Celebration of Life Service to honor Eddie’s life at 2:00 PM Monday, July 24, 2017 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Pastor Nathan Smith will officiate the service.
