James served his country with honor and distinction, proudly serving in the Army from 1957 to 1960 and then in the Air Force from 1961 to 1978. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and his dedication to his military associations was unwavering.
After his military service, James embarked on a successful career. He joined the McIntosh County Sherriff's Department in 1980 and later became a valued member of the City of Darien Police Department. He retired from policing in 2008. James owned and operated an 18-wheeler, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit.
When not serving his community or country, James found solace in his faith. He was a member of Crescent Baptist Church.
James will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 29 years, Betty, his son James H. McQuaig III, and his daughter Michelle (Ron) Harris. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his eight grandchildren: Amber Kline (Chris), James H. McQuaig IV, Kellie McQuaig, Lexie McQuaig, Morgan Harris, Avery Owens, Tanner Owens, and Jacob Harris. He also cherished his four great-grandchildren: Ella Kline, Kensley McQuaig, Audrie Kline, and Eliza McQuaig. James is survived by his brother, Don (Gail) McQuaig, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for James Henderson McQuaig Jr. will be held at 10:00 am at Crescent Baptist Church on Thursday, December 28, 2023 in Crescent, GA with internment in St. Andrews Cemetery in Darien, Ga. The family appreciates the support and assistance provided by the funeral home during this difficult time.
James will be remembered for his courage, dedication, and love for his family and country. His memory will forever be cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
