James Thomas Lewis, 81, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, at his residence. A native of Baxley, GA, Mr. Lewis had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 55 years. He was the son of the late George Thomas Lewis and late Annie Lee Orvin Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a mechanic at Brunswick Pulp and Paper Land Company, where he later retired. He was a former member of Altamaha Park Association, where he also ran the Park store for several years. Mr. Lewis was of the Baptist Faith. He also enjoyed his favorite past times of gardening, hunting, and fishing.
Survivors include his two sons Mike Lewis (Donna) and Kelly Lewis (Karen) both of Brunswick, GA; a daughter Vickie Lewis Fields of Brunswick, GA; Two brothers Walter “Bid” Lewis (Sarah) of Statesboro, GA and Roy Lewis (Bonnie) of Baxley, GA; three sisters Katie Jones (Johnny) of Savannah, GA, Ann Vincent (Harvey) of Douglas, GA, and Brenda Barbos (Achim) of Romania; his special care giver Kathleen Collins; 10 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mr. Lewis will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, GA with the Reverend Derrell Rentz officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Jesup, GA.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Billy Sellers, Tommy Lewis, Randy Lewis, Chris Taylor, Chris Lewis, Donnie Lewis, David Lewis Fields, and Jeffery Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Lewis, Roy Boyd, Phillip (Pop) Gendron, Emory Wayne Warren, Don Herndon, J.L. Johns, Oscar Young, Larry Griffin, Wade Lupo, Roy Fraser and the former employees of Brunswick Pulp and Paper Land Division.
The family request memorial contributions to be made to the Hospice of the Golden Isles 1692 Glynco Parkway Brunswick, GA 31525.
