James Edward Grady of St. Simons Island, GA., 84 years old died in the peace of Christ on April 14, 2011. Jim was born in Danville, Pennsylvania and grew up in New Rochelle, NY. He was the son of James T. and Anna D. Grady. He was pre-deceased by his sister Margaret Mary Albert. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise Niewenhous Grady, his sister Nancy Bradbury of Calabash, NC and his sons James Haughney Grady and wife Elissa of Norfolk, VA and John Niewenhous Grady and wife Jacqueline of Baltimore, MD. He also leaves daughters Claire Louise Grady and Catherine Mary Rowan and husband John. They live on St. Simons Island, GA.
His loving grandchildren include Sarah Grady Huss and husband Lee, Cristin Grady Chase and husband Jeremy, Erin Elizabeth Grady, Caitlin Anne Grady and Sean Patrick Grady of Norfolk, VA. His granddaughter Julia Anne Rowan and grandson Gregory Austin Rowan live on St. Simons Island, GA.
Jim was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He graduated from New York University with a B.S. degree and from the University of Virginia Executive Program. He spent his career with Exxon and retired as Public Affairs Manager of the Eastern Region.
On retirement he and Louise moved to St. Simons Island in 1988. They had returned to the Golden Isles many times after having spent their honeymoon at the Cloister in 1949.
While living in New Rochelle, NY he was President of the Davenport Beach Club, the University Club, member of the Rotary Club and the Larchmont Yacht Club. Locally, he was active as President of the Island Club Homeowners Association. He was one of the Founders and past President of the Shorebirds Social Club. He was a member of the Sea Island Golf Club. Jim was a bridge enthusiast and served as a Duplicate Club Director for 15 years.
Jim was a member of St. William Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector. The Memorial Mass will be at St. William Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 19th at 11:00 AM with Msgr. John Kenneally presiding.
