James was born July 24, 1935 in Eastman, Georgia to the late Mary M Burney and the late Wilton B Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Billie Rose Benton. She was truly his "Rose" and the love of his life. James was also preceded in death by his son, Ritchey Benton, a daughter, Vickie Dunn and son Corey Dunn.
James memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children: son, Tinker Benton; daughter & son in law Becky Moore (Daniel); son & daughter in law William Dunlap (Catherine); and daughter Lori Stewert; sister & brother in law Jeanette Moody (Chuck); grandson Ryan Benton, granddaughter Tiffany Kirkland, grandson Bubba Bertholf, granddaughter Gabbi Benton and very special friend Lynda Grovola.
Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren, his sister, Jeanette Moody (Chuck) and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
After serving in the US Marine corps, James moved to Brunswick in the 1960's. He was a Master Plumber by trade, owning Benton Plumbing Co. Inc for over 30 years. He was well known and respected by all. He built a reputation of honesty and impeccable character and was often looked to for advice from his peers in the industry.
James was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He took great pride in caring for his home and his beloved 1998 GMC Step side pickup truck.
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, 3321 Glynn Ave, Brunswick, Georgia 31520. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 10:00 AM officiated by Rev. Tommy Whaley at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Chapel Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Bubba Bertholf, Kerry Jones, Van McLoon Jr., Kevin Webb, David Wheeler, and Cliff Woodman. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Moore, Gary Wright, and Ryan Benton.
