Lamar was born May 18, 1940 in Dale County, Alabama to Myrtice Weems Preston and Glenn Preston. Raised in Seminole County, Georgia, Lamar graduated from Seminole County High School and furthered his education graduating from Alabama Aviation and Aeronautics College. Lamar served a lifetime career in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He also served with the Alabama Air National Guard. Upon retirement, he enjoyed working with various ministries including serving as a Chaplin at Northridge Hospital in Commerce, GA and at Favor House in Athens, GA. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and his beloved wife of 30 years.
He was an avid reader, loved college football, and after recently moving to Coastal Georgia, thoroughly enjoyed spending his free time fishing.
Lamar is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jane Randolph "Randy" Preston; son Chris Preston (Lisa) of Prattville, AL; daughter Abby Jones (Jeff) of Inman, SC; son Wilson Norman (Sarah) of Hoschton, Georgia; and daughter Lizzy Piana (Mike) of Houston, TX. Mr. Preston also leaves behind 10 grandchildren to cherish his memory; Judy, Abby, Isabella, Anna, Katherine, Ansley, Walt, Ruth, Mary, and Michael.
Lamar was preceded in death by; daughter Tina Preston; father Glenn Preston and mother Myrtice Weems Preston; brother Burwyn James Preston.
A funeral service for Lamar will be held Monday, October 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Darien United Methodist Church, 201 Franklin Street in Darien, Georgia with Reverend Bruce Morgan officiating. An interment will occur Monday, October 7, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Glennville Veterans Memorial Cemetery, US 301 in Glennville, Georgia, where he will be laid to rest with full Military Honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guards.
Lamar's presence touched the many lives of those around him. His love, understanding, and gentle nature will be missed by all.
