Ida Lee Box

Ida Lee Dixon Gailey Box, 93, of Brunswick passed away Wednesday, the 7th of August 2013 at the Southeast Georgia Health System under the care of Heartland Hospice. She has been a resident of Glynn County for many years.

Mrs. Box was born in Pierce County, Georgia, to the late Silas Lester Dixon and Ida Viola Martin Dixon on May 31, 1920. She enjoyed many years of being a member of the United Christian Women’s Club, Azalea Garden Club and Homemakers Club. Ida Lee spent most of her life as a seamstress and was a member at the Glyndale Baptist Church.

Mrs. Box was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Ida Viola Dixon; four brothers, Alton Dixon, Joe Dixon, Elzie Dixon and S.L. Dixon; three sisters, Ruth Ellington, Grace Griner and Bell Proctor; and her first husband of Waycross, Georgia, J.D. Gailey.

Mrs. Box is survived by her spouse of forty-seven years, James Elmer Box of Brunswick, Georgia; her daughter Lynn Barber (Herbert) of Blackshear, GA, her son, Jerry Gailey (Wanda) of Waynesville, GA; four grandsons Dr. Herbert “Herbie” Barber, Jr. (Robin) of Statesboro, GA, Dennis Gailey (Nicole) of White Oak, GA, Matt Gailey of Brunswick, GA and Shawn Gailey of Brunswick, GA; two granddaughters, Dr. Sherrie Cowan (Gene F.) of Patterson, GA, Suzanne Denison (George) of Patterson, GA; ten great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

The service will be held at the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home Saturday, the 10th of August at 11:00 a.m., with Reverends Ken Creekmore and Earl Parrish officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA.
