Hazel was born on October 29, 1933 in Nashville, Georgia to the late James Clayton Griner and the late Lily Viola Griner. She had resided in Brunswick, Georgia most of her life. She and her first husband owned Harper’s Seafood for several years. Hazel was later employed with Mock IGA as a cashier. She was a lady of faith and a member of Southside Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, James Clayton Griner and Lily Viola Griner; her first husband and the father of her children, Odis Alton Harper; her late husband, Ray Hopkins; her two brothers, Calvin Griner and James “J.C.” Griner. Left to cherish her memories are her two sons, Wendell Harper of Darien, GA and Jimmy Harper (Lana) of Brunswick, GA; her two daughters, Marie Harper Mosley and Mildred Loper (Greg) both of Brunswick, GA; Sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Griner (Doris); three sisters, Clydie Griner Keefe, Betty Griner Williamson, and Lynda Griner Strean (Bob); one special aunt, Cora Lee Purvis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Hazel loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler and loved to fish. She also enjoyed country and gospel music. Hazel enjoyed dancing as well. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories to cherish for years to come.
The family will receive friends during the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Service to honor Hazel’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Southside Baptist Church in Brunswick, Georgia with Reverend Bill Mullis officiating.
Active Pallbearers will be Brandon Harper, Travis Harper, Conner Joyce, Cody Mosley, Mike Hopkins, John Hopkins, and Mark Hopkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Dr. William G. Grubb and the staff of Dr. Michael H. Butler.
