Harold Thomas (Cork) Mixon passed away on November 8, 2016 at age 87. Cork lived a great life full of fun, family, and friends. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and friend. His gruff exterior belied his compassion and constant caretaking of family and friends. He was honest and straight forward to a fault, some might say blunt, but one always knew where they stood. He helped so many people, always encouraging them to be their best and to strive for more. He was a well-read, self-educated man who instilled in his children a life-long love of learning. His two most important life goals were to stay married and to ensure that his three children were college educated, and he was very proud of the fact that he achieved both.
He loved and adored his wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen, with whom he had a loving and working relationship that emphasized enjoying and living life to the fullest.
Cork was an entrepreneur, and he had many successful businesses throughout his life with his wife and partner including a precast concrete business and the dry cleaners, Cork’s Fabricare. Passionate about hard work, he had only retired in the last year of his life.
Cork enjoyed reading, golfing, fishing and could be described as a “news junkie”. His love of rock and roll included his favorite band, AC/DC. He enjoyed animals, especially his beloved dogs and cats. He seemed to know everyone in Glynn county or knew someone that they were related to. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of Brunswick and could have been a reference for any historian.
He will be sorely missed by his children, his siblings, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren & all of his many friends. We all love you, Cork!
