George L. “Kayo” Meeks, 76, of Brunswick surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday May 30, at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Mr. Meeks was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, avid hunter and fisherman, and wonderful story teller. He was born in Adrian, Georgia to the late Lawton Francis Meeks and Emma Lou Willis Meeks. Mr. Meeks was a graduate of Swainsboro High School, Swainsboro, Georgia. In 1990, after 33 years of service, he retired from L.C.P., Inc. in Brunswick.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Saran Brogdon Meeks, and sister Dorothy Meeks Harrell of Adrian, daughters Sherry Youngner (Brad), Mari M. Crosby (Greg) and GeorgeAnne M. Youngner (Alan) all of Brunswick.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Leigh Newton (Hank), Lesley Day (Ted), Josh Crosby, Zack Crosby (Crystal), Mary Kathryn Crosby, Sydneye Youngner, Sarah Youngner and Elliott Youngner. Great grand-children J.D. Day, Julianne Day, Luke Day, Isabella Day, Wyatt Day, Waylon Newton, and Lily Crosby. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to Mr. Meeks parents he is also predeceased in death by his two sisters, Julia Pridgen of Brunswick, Georgia and Annette Scott of Macon, Georgia.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, June 1st at 1:00 pm. in the Chapel of Edo Miller Funeral home with Pastor Bob McCannon officiating the service. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Crosby, Zack Crosby, Ted Day, J.D. Day, Hank Newton and Elliott Youngner, Robbie King, John King, Cork Leahy, Matt Leahy, Dade Brantley, Stephen Barrett MD, Emily Feely MD, Ted Feely MD, William Grubb MD, Lori Trefts MD, Dr. Abraham Cheong, the staff of Southeast Georgia Health System-Brunswick Campus and the staff of Hospice of the Golden Isles.
