Gary Long, 57, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2015 at his residence. A native of Valdosta, GA he had been a resident of Glynn County since 1962. Mr. Long was born October 13, 1957 to the late Albert Gerald Long, Sr. and the late Bennie Herndon Long. He was a 1975 graduate of Glynn Academy, where he was a drum major for the high school band. Mr. Long was a self-employed carpenter and he was a member of the Golden Isles Rugby club for over 29 years. He was also a member of Christian Renewal Church. During his spare time Mr. Long enjoyed fishing, archery, watching the Georgia Bulldogs football games and cooking, which included making pepper jelly and salsa, in which he grew his own peppers. Mr. Long enjoyed ministry to others, and loved to spend time with his two dogs Paige and Sable.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his sister Debi Holmes and his uncle Fred Long.
Survivors include his wife of five years Laura Gail Long of Brunswick, GA; son Ryan Long of Snellville, GA; sister Angel Long Holder ( Todd ) of Brunswick, GA; aunt Carol Long Shepperd of Jacksonville, FL; two nieces Kayce Williamson and Lindsey Futch both of Brunswick, GA; nephew Zach Holder of Brunswick, GA and many other family members.
Visitation will be Friday, February 20, 2015 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Christian Renewal Church 4265 Norwich St. Ext. Brunswick, GA 31520 with the Reverend Bill Ligon officiating. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. .
Serving as active pallbearers will be Zach Holder, Leroy Reagan, James Morris , Myles Kilby, Mike Middleton, and Bruce Kennedy.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cardin Taylor, Wayne Carter, Jimmy Mayer, and James Morris.
