Evelyn was born on Staten Island, to Ernest and Elizabeth Herbert. She was the youngest of 10 children.
In response to WWII, Evelyn joined the Waves, with the blessing of her parents, and proudly served her country from 1944-1946, stationed in New London, CT.
After the war, Evelyn settled in Staten Island, married and raised 4 children. She worked at the local hospital after her youngest started school.
Evelyn found her true love Joseph Bedell later in life and they married in 1987. They enjoyed many adventures including traveling, visiting their 2 camps in Rangeley, ME. and hosting family events.
Later Evelyn made the move to Ocean Grove, NJ where she hosted family at the beach, and volunteering at the Neptune Senior Center.
At the age of 93 she moved to St Simons Island, GA to be near her youngest daughter, Gail. She became the “Queen” of Happy Hour and made many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her nine siblings and her beloved husband Joe, and her daughter Linda.
She is survived by her son, Peter Flannelly (Rosalyn), Lynn Scott (Rita Saylor) and Gail Feddersen. She thanks her dear friend, John Hartland for his love, laughter and weekly food deliveries. Karen Leigh also visited with her ukulele to sing for her. Susan Butler and Darlene Schwarz and Patty Jo Palmer were also frequent visitors. She blessed with seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, Evelyn, named in her honor. She has many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Golden Isles or Memory Matters in her honor would be appreciated.
A celebration of her life will be at the home of her daughter Gail, to be announced at a later date.
