Elvie DeWayne Dowling, 81, of Brunswick, departed this life Friday, January 5, 2024 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in Palmetto Cemetery. Jacob Newbern, Mack Newbern, Ashton Flanagan, Nate Flanagan, Virgil Dowling, and Lewis Dowling serving as pallbearers.
Born May 25, 1942 in Blackshear, Georgia to the late Lewis Elvie and Maddie Luree A. Dowling, he was US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam. He retired from Georgia Pacific after 43 years and lived most of his life in Brunswick. Mr. Dowling enjoyed gardening, hunting, raising livestock, cooking and feeding anyone that graced his door. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Jean Dowling, a sister, Metty Bullard, and two brothers, Virgil Dowling and Elton Dowling.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Newbern of Brunswick, a son, David Dowling and wife Jennifer of Brantley County, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two sisters, Wanda Strickland and husband Sam of Camden County, Mary Lou Sanchez of Tampa, FL, a brother, Troy Dowling of Brantley County, several nieces and nephews.
