Edward was born in Rochester, NY on May 15, 1928 the son of the late Edward M. Wendel Sr. and the late Helen L. Wendel Smeck. He was also formerly of Brunswick, Georgia. He was a devoted husband to his wife Jacqueline J. Wendel. He served his country with honors in the United States Army in Korea during WWII. During His military service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan. Edward was a Life Chapter member of the Saint Simons Island VFW Post 4092 and a member of the American Legion.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edward M. Wendel, Sr. and his mother Helen L. Wendel Smeck. He is survived by his wife, Jackqueline A Wendel; his sister, Eleanor L. Gunter; a brother: M. Robert Wendel (Margie); his children, David C. Wendel (Mary), Larry E. Wendel, Judith A. Clune, Mark R. Wendel (Janeen), Gail H. Wendel, Diane M. Pantazoplus (Ted), Karen J. Ouellette (Jeffery), Thomas J. Allie (Suzanne), and Michael J. Allie (Connie). Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family during the hours of 5:30 – 6:30 PM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A memorial service to honor Edward’s life will follow the visitation at 6:30 PM on Monday, March 20, 2017 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with military honors. Brother Jackie Holton will officiate the service.
Family was always important to Edward. He also enjoyed gardening. Edward was creative with his hands and was precise in all his work details.
