The Georgetown, Tennessee native was born November 25, 1929 to Hoyt Tennessee Murray and Essie Marie Hixson Murray.
Ed was a graduate of Hixson High School, where he excelled in sports, as well at taking starring rolls in musicals. He had a long career in lingerie sales in the southeast with Gossard Company. In his leisure time, he was a scratch golfer and excellent tennis player. While residing in Douglasville, before retiring to Darien, he served three terms as chairman of the Douglas County Board of Education and was president of the Education Committee.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and sang in the choir. Ed was a kind, loving and gentle man, who loved people.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Murray; and a step-daughter, Emma Jordan.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Sue Rogers Murray of Darien; siblings, Fred Murray of Hixson, Adeline Murray Grayson of Tempe, Ariz. and Patricia Ann Murray; step-children, Anna Williams of Valona and Matt Williams (Perri) of Houston, Texas; step-grandchildren, Sam Williams and Sarah Williams.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Darien. Funeral services will follow 11 a.m., with Father Mike Gumulauskas officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery in Darien.
Pallbearers will be Matt Williams, Zack Rath, Don Remillard, Ken Bernard, Sam Williams and Billy Dowdle.
