Earl William Metcalf Jr.

Earl William Metcalf, Jr., 89 of St. Simons Island, Georgia departed this life Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Sunday morning, August 14, 2016 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday afternoon at 1PM with Military Honors. Bill Metcalf, Jimmie Metcalf, Lee Willingham, Sean Metcalf, Kevin Mayo, and Sammy Mula will serve as pallbearers.

Born December 28, 1926 in Bay City, Texas to the late Earl W. Metcalf Sr. and Eula R. Metcalf, he was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII. He attended the San Jose Church of Christ and was a Jacksonville resident for 40 years where he enjoyed his beloved children, their spouses, grandchildren, and many friendships over that time. He explored a variety of hobbies, was always willing to help others, and had a passion for coastal living. Mr. Metcalf retired as a corporate level vice president for Associates Insurance Group. He is survived by his daughter Cathy L. Mayo of New Smyrna, Florida, son E. William Metcalf III of St. Simons Island, Georgia, brother Jimmie N. Metcalf of Edna, Texas, and his grandchildren, Rachel Metcalf of St. Simons Island, Georgia, Sean Metcalf of Dalton, Georgia, Kevin Mayo of Winter Park, Florida, Lee Willingham and Stephanie Willingham of Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Doris M. Metcalf and daughter J. Sonnie Willingham. His presence will be missed by all those touched through his life.
