Dorothy Yawn was born February 15, 1932, in Hazlehurst, GA. She was married to former Brunswick Police Officer, Raymond Yawn for more than 53 years. Dorothy was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and faithful member of her church - Norwich Street Church of God and Golden Isles Church of God and a PTA member at CB Greer Elementary. She loved Jesus, her husband, and her entire family dearly and always had a warm, friendly smile and kind word for everyone she met. Dorothy enjoyed talking on the phone with her sister, other family members and close friends. But the joy of Nana Dot’s heart was spending time with, and seeing photos and watching videos of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was a prayer warrior and spent a lot of time on her knees praying for others. Her Pastor, Nathan Smith, perfectly described Dorothy with one word “Faithful”.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Steve Yawn (Heather) of Kingsland, GA, her sister, Betty Wigley, her grandchildren: Mitchell Yawn (Melanie), Mishelle Willams (Joel), Joshua Yawn, Sarah Yawn Blanton (Ben). Her great-grandchildren: Ruth Blanton, Gideon Blanton, Danielle Yawn, Janie Yawn, Piper Yawn, Merida Yawn, Micah Kerns (Kensley), Meagan Kerns, Morgan Kerns Leavens (Corey), AnnaLaura Williams, Zachary Williams. Her great-great-grandchildren: Liam Enoch Kerns, Breck Leavens, Everly Leavens. Dorothy loved and prayed consistently for each and every one of them. She was preceded in death by her mother Bethal Mae Grimsley, father Waldon D. Rowland, husband Raymond L. Yawn, daughter, Delores Jacqueline Nester, son Daniel L. Yawn (Ginny).
Visitation will be held Friday evening, September 29, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 am in the funeral home Chapel with Pastor Nathan Smith officiating. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her name to Golden Isles Church of God, Brunswick, GA or Community Hospice Warner Center, Fernandina Beach, FL.
