Mrs. Gaye was born November 7, 1940 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She lived in Brunswick, Georgia for the last three years to be close to her mother, but had resided in Scottsville, Virginia most of her adult life. She graduated from Lynchburg College. Gaye was a school teacher and also taught music. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Scottsville, Virginia where she served as the Choir Director and also the Organist. Gaye will be remembered for her thoughtful nature to help others.
Mrs. Gaye was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Allen Harris; her father, Mitchell Carwile. She is survived by her daughter, Megan Susanne Harris of Charlottesville, Virginia; her mother, Dorothy Tait of Brunswick, Georgia; one brother, David Carwile of Brunswick, Georgia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mrs. Gaye loved music and was blessed to have a beautiful singing voice. Upon moving to Brunswick, she became a season ticket holder to The Coastal Symphony of Georgia. Mrs. Gaye was also an avid Elvis Presley fan. She also played the piano and organ. Her knowledge of music was appreciated by all who heard her play and sing. Her legacy will continue through her students that she has taught music lessons to over the years. Mrs. Gaye was an avid Elvis Presley fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will have many fond memories of her entertaining them with her musical talent for years to come.
A Memorial Service to honor Mrs. Gaye’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick, Georgia. Reverend Jim McIlrath will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. The burial will take place at a later date in Scottsville, Virginia.
