Donald Allen Patterson, 71, “like an eagle took to the sky” on March 26, 2020 where he will live forever with His Heavenly Father. Graveside services will be conducted at 11AM Monday, March 30, 2020 for family and close friends at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mt. Olive Road off of Old Post Road, Waynesville, GA on Monday, March 30, 2020. He was born an “Army Brat” in Beckley, West Virginia on September 7, 1948 to Clyde Leonard and Martha Mae Patterson. He is third generation military and served his country during the Vietnam era in the Army as a member of Long-range Reconnaissance patrol. Don was also an Army Ranger, Senior Parachutist, and a graduate of SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape) school. He was a true American patriot and proudly instilled these values in his family. He was a general contractor and owner/operator of DGP Contractors.com, LLC. He held several professional licenses and enjoyed the challenges that life brought him. God blessed him with a remarkable gift of an analytical mind with diversified skills. One of his memorable sayings was that, “A man can think himself out of almost any given situation/problem.” Although he no longer pastored, Don was an ordained Independent Methodist minister who thoroughly enjoyed teaching, preaching and studying God’s word. He often said that He and God had a unique and honest relationship that other people just could not understand. Additionally, there was no request too complicated or time too inconvenient to stop him from helping a brother in need. While some “talked the talk,” Don always “walked the walk.” He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Glenda S. Patterson, his son, Philip A. Patterson (Christine) whom he was so proud of and the three who lovingly calls him “Pepaw”: Khloe, Oliver and Hadley Patterson. They were his pride and joy. All of his family will forever cherish the memories they have of their loved one stored in their hearts. And as 4 year old Oliver reasons, “Pepaw has gone to live with Jesus, I have Jesus in my heart, so Pepaw is in my heart.”
