David L. Runyan, age 71, of Brunswick, died Sunday March 1, 2015. Dave was born in Norristown, PA, the son of Robert and Bertha Loos Runyan. After graduating from high school, David spent 4 years in the US Army where he earned the distinctive “Soldier of the Month Award” for the Supply Division, Saigon Logistics Area, in February, 1966. After serving our country, Dave worked as a volunteer firefighter for John Hancock Fire Department in Pennsylvania. He moved to Brunswick in the early 70’s and attended Brunswick Junior College where he majored in Business. After graduation, he worked for Crews Plumbing for a number of years until he was able to fulfill his life-long dream of owning his own business. In 1984 Dave established Runyan Plumbing and in 2014 was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Plumbing and Mechanical Association of Georgia. Dave was very active in the community and was a big supporter of the Safe Harbor Children’s Shelter. He enjoyed woodworking and building furniture, but his passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kaleigh Runyan.
He is survived by two sons, David P. Runyan (Tiffany) and Clinton R. Runyan (Samantha), both of Brunswick; four grandchildren, Courtney, Elizabeth, Doulton and Kasey Runyan; two brothers, Rachael Runyan of Alaska and James Runyan (Beverly) of New Hampshire; a sister, Roberta Purtuch (Tommy) of Pennsylvania; four nephews, Josh, Ben, Ritchie and Glenn and two nieces, Alicia and Cheryl.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow in the funeral home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dave’s name to Safe Harbor Children’s Shelter, 2215 Gloucester Street, Brunswick, GA 31520.
