Daniel "Dan" Joseph Sullivan, Jr., 83, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, November 20, 2022, with his loving wife, Sylvia, by his side. He was born in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Poquonock, Connecticut, the son of the late Daniel Joseph Sullivan, Sr. and the late Mary Frances Sullivan.
Dan was a 1958 graduate of Windsor High School in Connecticut and was an Eagle Scout. After graduation, he worked as a farmer and served in the Air National Guard for six years. Once marrying Sylvia M. Sullivan in 1969, they settled in St. Croix, USVI. He used his remarkable craftsman abilities and skills to establish Ashton Maintenance, LLC. Dan and his wife, Sylvia, have always loved the island lifestyle and enjoyed living on St. Croix, USVI, for 50 years, where they raised their two children. He was a very involved and devoted father. He participated in running his son's Boy Scout troop and was an inspirational influence on the children in his troop. They all still remember the life lessons he imparted. After Dan closed and retired from his business in 2016, they moved to St. Simons Island in 2019.
Dan enjoyed vegetarian food but not cilantro. He loved traveling and went on annual trips with his sisters throughout the world. He was also an avid cyclist for over 20 years on the beautiful hills of St. Croix and practiced yoga. He enthusiastically enjoyed baking and cooking; giving his blueberry muffins to friends and family was one of his greatest joys. Breakfast also was his specialty, especially his waffles.
In the last few years of his life, he blossomed into a prolific and prodigious artist. He produced over 20 paintings in the previous year and a half. Dan was a determined individual and never afraid of hard work.
He accomplished whatever he set his mind to do, including becoming an artist at the end of his life. He was a humble man who worked with his hands to fix and build things. He loved people and believed in paying it forward. Yet, he was not a bullsh*ter. Spending time with his family and friends is what he treasured the most. He will be genuinely and deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his kind eyes, sweet laugh, and dry sense of humor.
Left to cherish his fond memories are the love of his life, Sylvia; his daughters, Debbi Lacy (Bill), Robin Sullivan, Jill Sullivan, and Ginger Daiker (Brian); a son, Daniel "DJ" Joseph Sullivan III (Maria); his two grandsons, Danny Sullivan known as D4 and Brighton Kleiber; one granddaughter, Bianca Plourde; and his two sisters, Joan Moran (Daniel) and Patricia Dunning. His mother-in-law, Enid A. Stone, brother-in-law Herman P. Stone (Shanti), sister-in-law Victoria L. Green (Frazier), and numerous nieces and nephews. All his wonderful friends are too plentiful to list.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held at a later date.
