Claire Visconti Brennan, 82, of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, at Hospice of The Golden Isles, GA, surrounded by her family. She was born in Springfield, MA, on October 17, 1941, to Dr. James J. Visconti and Kathryn Nolan Visconti. Claire graduated from The MacDuffie School in Springfield, MA, in 1959 and Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, in 1963.
She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard "Dick" Brennan, and her son, James V. (Michelle) Brennan. She is survived by her three remaining children: Katherine B. (Thomas) Reilly of Hilton Head Island, SC, Janet B. (Fredrick) Zeh of St Simons Island, GA, and Peter (Noel Hedges) Brennan of London, UK. Claire was a loving "Nana" to six grandchildren: Emily B. (Glen) Carey, Caroline Reilly, Kevin Brennan, Brennan Reilly, Piper Zeh, and Liza Zeh. Claire was also a beloved sister to Janet V. (Tom) Caputo of John's Island, FL, and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Claire spent many years as a gifted floral designer at English Gardens, The Columbia Flower Mart, and The Rouse Company. Her creations brought beauty and joy to all occasions, and she will forever be the master of the Christmas bow. Her creative beauty found another calling in the world of golf apparel. As the Hobbits Glen Golf Club Merchandise Manager, Claire became a fixture in the Columbia, MD, golf community with her keen eye for style and unwavering commitment as an ambassador of the sport.
After retiring to Hilton Head Island in 2000, Claire dedicated her time to volunteering throughout the community with the Boys and Girls Club and spending many hours playing golf and bridge with friends. Claire's love for golf led her to serve as the Moss Creek WGA Ladies Nine Chairwoman. With a passion for making a difference, Claire also dedicated countless hours to various Moss Creek committees and organizations. As a Board Member, she served on many committees, including the House Committee, Inaugural Charitable Fund, ARB Committee, Nominating Committee, and the Moss Creek Library. Her dedication was unparalleled, often being the driving force behind many successful initiatives and charity events. Claire's legacy is in the projects and policies she helped shape, as well as her mentorship and support to fellow committee members.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Celebration at St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island, SC, on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation for the warm and compassionate care offered by the hospice team.
