Charlie, son of Charles Dixon Bruce, Sr. and Dora Aldred Bruce was born on February 17, 1945. Charlie graduated from Glynn Academy in 1963 and left Brunswick to become a “Dawg” at the University of Georgia. He earned a Business Administration degree in 1967 and was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon graduating from the University of Georgia, he was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army. Following boot camp, he was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Hood, Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1969 as a Sergeant. When he returned to Brunswick, he joined Bruce-Warwick Realty & Insurance Company as a licensed real estate broker and insurance agent.
Charlie was an accomplished water skier and won a state championship when he was still in high school. As a young man, he was an avid car enthusiast. He built several cars which he raced at the Golden Isles Speedway. Building remote controlled boats and airplanes, fishing, and playing tennis were other lifelong hobbies. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at Marshside Grill.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara Willoughby Bruce. He is survived by his daughter, Lucy Heath Bruce Horton.
Charlie will be buried with his wife and parents at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick, Ga. Considering the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, graveside services will be planned at a later date.
