Betty G. Smith

Betty G. Smith, 84, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at SGHS in Brunswick. Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Peter Vivenzio and Dr. Earl L. Boyette. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Herbert Rogers, Lee, Bruce, Pat Womack, Fred Wages, Brad Simpson, and Bert Cash. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s grandsons.

Mrs. Smith was born in Wayne County, Georgia, June 25, 1928 to the late George A. Grantham and Georgia Brown Grantham. The family moved to Glynn County when Mrs. Smith was a child and she lived here until her death. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Sara Dukes, and a brother, George Grantham, Jr.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served in numerous capacities including assistant church financial secretary for over 30 years. Betty established the church library and used her artistic talent to make the library interesting and inviting. Her love for her family and friends was evident in her actions, her journals, and cards and visits to loved ones and friends. She had a great love for travel which included Hawaii, and RVing throughout the lower 48 states.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Ralph E. Smith of Brunswick; one daughter, Beverly Aaron and husband Danny Aaron of Shreveport, Louisiana; two sons, David Smith and wife Suzanne Smith of Augusta, Georgia; and Randall Smith and wife Ellen of Brunswick; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a special niece Jennifer Edwards and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
