Belinda Gaye Farmer passed away on December 1, 2022, at her residence on St. Simons Island. Born on September 4, 1965, in Waycross, Georgia, Gaye was a 1983 graduate of Ware County High School and also a graduate of Valdosta State University. She was an accomplished interior designer throughout the state of Georgia. Prior to moving to Saint Simons Island almost 30 years ago, Gaye held a number of positions including that of cook at a dude ranch, a job she took without knowing how to cook.
Gaye loved to travel, always by car so as to get the most out of the adventure, and she was especially fond of the Florida Keys. She loved animals, particularly cats, and took it upon herself to look after not only her own, but the feral cats in her neighborhood and even some wildlife. Her friendship circle on St. Simons and elsewhere was wide and those who were fortunate enough to be included in that circle will remember her laugh, her generosity of time and spirit, and her standard answer to any question: "Maybe."
She is survived by her partner, Wayne Huntley of St. Simons Island; two brothers, Dr. James Theodore Farmer, Jr. (Michelle) of Athens and Earnest Timothy (Tim) Farmer (Joni) of Blackshear; two nephews, James T. Farmer, III, of Perry, and Joey Farmer (Carlie) of Blackshear; and four nieces, Maggie Farmer Yelton (Zach) of Bluffton, South Carolina, Meredith Farmer Deal (Keaton) of Perry, Cassie Farmer Fipps (Sam) of Guyton, and Emilee Farmer of Athens. She is also survived by eight great-nieces and four great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James T. Farmer, Sr. and Jearl (Jeri) Lee Smith Farmer.
A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor Gaye's life will be held between 6 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia.
