Annie Elizabeth “Bette” Harper Mavromat, age 84, of Brunswick, went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 22, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. Bette was a lifelong resident of Brunswick who attended Glynn Academy. She was a charter member of Blythe Island United Methodist Church where she volunteered as assistant coach for the BIUMC softball team and held several positions including Sunday school teacher, choir director and past President of the United Methodist Women. Bette loved planting and caring for her flowers and was a proud past member of the Blythe Island Garden Club. She was an avid UGA and Braves fan, but her passion was for her most prized possession – her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert S. and Louise Frasier Harper; her husband, Andrew John Mavromat, and several siblings, R.D. “Bobby” Harper, Virginia Strickland and Harold Frasier “Sonny” Harper.
She is survived by her children, John A. Mavromat (Hilda), Katherine “Kaye” Mavromat Sanford (Paul), Elizabeth “Ann” Mavromat Bassett (Charles), Donald “Andy” Mavromat and Donna Mavromat Bray (Christopher); ten grandchildren, David Mavromat, Aaron Mavromat, Melissa Sanford Pickering, Melinda Sanford Wilcox, Ryan D. Gibbs, Haley Andrea Mavromat, Sara Louise Bray, Andrew “Drew” Thompson Bray, Kendall Ann Bray and Griffin Nicholas Bray; nine great-grandchildren, David S. Mavromat, Katie L. Pickering, Kyle Pickering, Gage Wilcox, Abby Wilcox, Lainey Wilcox, Cody Gibbs, Dawson Gibbs and Kamden Gibbs; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Harold F. (Marianna) Harper; a brother-in-law, William D. (Bill) Hamilton and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Blythe Island United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Kase and Rev. Ron Burbank officiating. Burial will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Nick Mavromat, Pete Harper, Garrett Gibbs, Bobby Strickland, Hal Strickland and Mike Strickland. Honorary pallbearers will be the Blythe Island Women’s Senior Sunday School Class, Chuck McMonigal, Gil McMonigal, Stevie McGregor and Drs. Nunneman and Kranc.
