Alberta Lorie Nix Nix Dowdy

Mrs. Dowdy was born October 2, 1922 in Brewton, Alabama and had been a resident of Brunswick for the past 64 years. She was a graduate of Downing-Shofner School in 1943 in Brewton, Ala. She was retired from Sun Trust Bank (1st National Bank of Brunswick) after 43 years of service.

She was a member of the College Place United Methodist Church and was regular attendee of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was also a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick and was very active in the MYF and Nursery. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club and the DeMolay Mother’s for many years. She was a former President for several years of the Glynn Co. Rose Society, where she won many awards for her Roses.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Elrod Kennedy.

Survivors are her husband of 64 years, H. D. “Dusty” Dowdy of Brunswick, a son, William Gregory Dowdy, Sr. and his wife, Cathy Dowdy, two grandsons, William Gregory Dowdy, Jr. and Matthew Dustin Dowdy all of Bonaire, Ga., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Charles W. Dowdy of St. Simons Island, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Friday 9/24/10 in the College Place United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Grotheer officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Thursday and request in lieu of flowers contributions to the Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Ga., 31525.
