Mr. Poppell was a native and lifelong resident of Darien, Georgia. He was the son of the late Adam Strain Poppell Sr. and the late Janie Smith Poppell. He was married to his loving wife Ann W. Poppell for fifty five years. He was Clerk of the Superior Court in McIntosh County and retired with twenty eight years of service. After his retirement, he was the court administrator with the Atlantic Judicial Circuit for several years. Mr. Poppell was an active mason and was a member of the Live Oak Lodge #137 in Darien, Georgia.
The family will receive friends at the Masonic Live Oak Lodge #137 in Darien, Georgia on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 5-7:00 PM. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 22, 2016 in the Saint Andrews Cemetery with Reverend Mike Huling officiating.
Pallbearers serving during the service will be Joseph F.Poppell, Ty S. Poppell, Adam “Ad” S. Poppell 111, Chris Hutcheson, Joseph H. Poppell, and Noah P. Douglas.
Mr. Poppell was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his devoted wife Ann W. Poppell of Darien, GA; one daughter, Dale P. Arthur of Poplarville, MS; three sons, Adam “Ad” S. Poppell 111 (Lynn), Joseph F. Poppell (Leslie), and Ty S. Poppell (Barbara) all of Darien, GA; nine grandchildren, Joey, Caroline, Catherine (Michael), Beth (Chris), Noah, Adam, Patrick, Bobby, and Courtney. Two nieces and one nephew also survive, Theresa Deen (Jimmy), Nancy Thagard, and Thomas H. Poppell Jr. (Lori) and the family cat “Ice Cream” also survives.
Mr. Poppell loved to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made in his honor to Masonic Camp At Shellmans Bluff in care of Live Oak lodge #137, P.O. Box 502, Darien, GA 31305.
