He is preceded in death by his parents: Manuel G. Cavazos and Elvira Ledesma Cavazos, his sister Enedelia Cavazos Sanchez, his son David Joseph Cavazos, and his former wife Rosario F. Cavazos.
He is survived by his siblings: Elma C. Bernert (Bill), Eduvelia C. Loya (Frank), Elvia C. Sanchez (Joe+), and Manuel Ledesma Cavazos.
He is also survived by his children, Cynthia A. Cavazos, James E. Cavazos, Sandra E. Cavazos, Christina M. Cavazos and by his grandchildren Stephanie Thomas, Austin M. Martinez, Ryan A. Martinez, and great- grandchildren, Kaiser Thomas and Saskia Thomas, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sigifredo L. Cavazos was born in Harlingen, Texas, the eldest of six children. As a young boy he worked picking cotton, delivering newspapers, and as an attendant at a bowling alley. He was consumed with bodybuilding and regularly competed in bodybuilding competitions. He left school at 17 to join the Air Force. After serving in the Air Force, he then joined the Navy where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and began his career as teacher, college administrator and writer. He married Maria del Rosario Flores and had five children. His career took him to Michigan for many years before settling in Brownsville, Texas.
Sigifredo was an avid outdoorsman- a hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and fishing trips to the South Padre Island area. He loved the mountains and frequently traveled to the western states of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and even Alaska. He became an outstanding outdoor photographer.
He was also a writer and author. He penned many short stories and novels. After retiring from the education field, he published two books – a book of short stories titled Amistad Mountains and Other Stories, and a novel titled The Quest.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation services with be held Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Rose Lawn. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 1914 Barnard Rd., Brownsville, TX 78520 followed by a burial at 3:00 PM at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd., Brownsville, TX 78526.
