Roberto was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas and worked at the Port of Brownsville ---Shrimp Basin -- for decades. He was a very friendly and loving person who became involved in the Head Start Program after he retired. He was an avid gun enthusiast, who enjoyed reading, dancing and telling stories and jokes.
Mr. Garza is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Garza and Ma. Del Refugio Muñiz Garcia; his sisters, Ma. Concepcion De la Garza and Ma. Guadalupe Castillo.
Left to cherish the memory of Mr. Garza is his loving wife of 56 years, Rafaela Esparza Garza; his four children, Sylvia G. (Sai) Lau, Roberto (Gina) Garza Jr., Jose Luis (Esperanza) Garza Sr. and Pedro (Elena) Garza Sr.; his grandchildren, Christina, Aileen, Jose Luis Jr., Sean, Sonia, Ryan, Samantha, Jose Angel, Pete Jr., Vincent, Fidel, Jareth, Roberto James and Allison; his great-grandchildren, Emme, Nathan, Cassandra and Isaac; his nieces, Concepcion and Ana Luisa; his nephew, Alejandro Castillo; his loyal canine companions, Rex and Toby.
Viewing will begin today, Sunday, August 18, 2013, at 11 a.m., and continue until 9 p.m., with a Holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell, Brownsville, TX, on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 2pm with a committal Service to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Honored to be serving as pallbearers will be Sean C. Lau, Jose Luis Garza Jr., Pete Garza Jr., Vincent Garza, Jose Angel Garza and Alejandro Castillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Roberto Garza Jr., Jose Luis Garza Sr., Pedro Garza Sr. and Sai C. Lau.
