Lourdes was a daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend; and she was also a very loyal and noble person.
Maria Lourdes was born in Queretaro, Mexico on February 5, 1944, daughter of the late Francisco Garcia and Victoria Casillas-Garcia. At age 7, her family immigrated to the United States and she grew up at Port Isabel, TX where she graduated from Port Isabel High School, and she attended Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. Lourdes was a lifelong resident of Brownsville, TX.
She was a devout catholic and parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and for many years Lourdes played the guitar with the church choir at the cathedral and Saint Thomas mission. She also volunteered as the money counter coordinator for the Immaculate Conception. In 2017, Lourdes became a parishioner at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church and she also served as a volunteer with the money counter team.
She was an employee of the Blazer Financial Company for over 30 years. At age 54, she retired to take care of her elderly mother. After the passing of her mother, Lourdes went back to work for Immaculate Conception Cathedral office with the Cathedral Restoration Campaign.
Preceding Maria Lourdes in death were her parents, Francisco Garcia and Victoria Casillas-Garcia, her brothers Jose Rafael and Francisco Garcia and her sister Maria del Socorro Garcia.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Maria L. Garcia of Buckeye, AZ, her nephews Frank (Connie) Garcia of Madison, AL and Jesse Lee Garcia of Brownsville, TX and her niece Brenda (Alonso) Saldana of Riverside, CA. Lastly, she is survived by her grandnieces and grandnephews, Joey, Brinlee, Rayleen, and Brandon Garcia, and Gabriel, Nathaniel and Aaron Garcia and extended family.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday December 20 between 1:00 pm and 9:00 pm, with the recitation of the holy rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Saint Luke 2749 to begin at 7:00 pm. The viewing continues on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 8:00 AM with a chapel service at 10:00 am at the Chapel of Peace, cremation will follow by Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 McDavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521.
