Manuel Zárate Jr. entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Mcallen Medical Center. He resided at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans' Home in McAllen, Texas where he was cared for by a dedicated staff. Mr. Zárate served in the US Army from 1962 to 1969. He was a Vietnam Veteran who was proud to serve his country. He worked for the International Boundary and Water Commission in Mercedes, TX as a diesel mechanic for 32 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going for rides, and eating at restaurants.
Manuel is survived by his daughter Sandra Serna (Lawrence), his son Michael Zárate; his sisters Berta Farias (Juvencio), María Elena Garza, Anna María Ruiz (Jose), and his brothers Reynaldo Zárate, Arturo Zárate (Leobalda); his granddaughter Rebekah Serna and his grandson Jeffrey Serna.
Manuel was preceded in death by his wife Oralia Zárate †; his mother Maria Beccera Zárate † ; his father Manuel Zárate Sr.; his sister Juana Garza †; his brothers Alejandro Zárate †; Gilberto Zárate †; Ernesto Zárate † and Jorge Luis Zárate †.
A visitation for Manuel will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Chapel of Peace at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd, Brownsville, Texas 78521. A chapel service will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 10:00 AM in Chapel of Peace at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista followed by a burial at Buena Vista Burial Park at 11am.
