A model woman, representing faith, strength, courage, with a heart of gold, always willing to help, care for others and the first to go without so others could be with.
Born in Las Rusias, Matamoros, Lydia and her family moved to Brownsville when she was 12 years old. She married Rodolfo on October 28, 1956 and celebrated 64 years together prior to his passing in 2021. Together, they raised 7 children. Lydia also cared for her parents for many years until their loss of physical life.
Lydia enjoyed visits on the porch with family and friends and tending to her plants. During her earlier years, she also enjoyed dancing. In addition, she had a special place in her heart for her pet birds.
Her loving ways were displayed in plentiful forms, especially in the many meals she prepared, with those fresh, homemade tortillas, and who could forget that sweet iced tea. It was the best.
And let’s not forget her quick responses, the wealth of sayings an idioms, her laugh, and the many nicknames she ordained us with.
Her faith was in abundance, her character, upstanding, and she had the most direct and honest personality. She was a backbone, to say the least. Her toughness, not to be doubted, for nothing was too difficult nor impossible for her because she held on strong to God’s grace and trust.
Known as a daughter, wife, mom, caregiver, sister, friend, ‘Comadre’, grandmother, great-grandmother, Godmother, La Tía Lydia wore many hats.
She loved and cared for so many and many adored her.
Lydia is survived by her daughter Anna McGuire (Shawn); her son Ricardo Muñiz (Norma); her son Francisco Muniz (Cecilia); her son Arnold Muñiz (Nora); and her daughter Benita Eckersley (Herbie); her sister Idalia Watts.
