Josefina "Bebe" Zavaleta de Garza

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonel Garza Peña; her parents Pedro Zavaleta and Concepcion Garcia Gomez De Zavaleta; her brothers, Fernando (Zip) Zavaleta, Guz Zavaletta and Dr. Joseph A. Zavaletta.

She is survived by her children, Peter Albert, Belinda, Conchita (Eric Rodenbaugh), Leonel Jr. (Vanessa Argote de Garza), and Josefina Margarita; her grandchildren, Ian Peter Rodenbaugh Garza, Marijose & Anafernanda Garza Argote; her brother Jesus Zavaleta (Corina Cavazos) and sister Emma Zavaleta Gutierrez.

Bebe, as she was fondly known by all that knew her was a loving and devoted wife and mother who above all valued family as her most cherished treasure; will be remembered for many wonderful virtues, her exceptional love of all that surrounded her, and the joy she brought to everyone that was touched by her.

She is a graduate of Villa Maria Academy (1946), where she excelled in her studies and also in sports and leadership. A few years after school she married her high school sweetheart Leonel Garza Peña who was a devoted husband for over 63 years, with whom she formed a family. They moved and lived in Mexico City where their five children were raised and educated until she and her husband retired back in Brownsville Texas.

Some of her other accomplishments include, leadership positions in the University Club of Mexico, tennis award winner at the Club Italiano, and the Club Mundet of Mexico; team member of the National Women’s Mexican Bowling Team, Treasurer of the National Mexican Women’s Bowling Team, and many other achievements. She travelled widely in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean and North and South America. She was a great horse rider, hunter, volunteer, and team member and if it must be said, she excelled in every pursuit she set her mind especially as a wonderful mother.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 5pm-9pm with a rosary at 6pm at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10am.
