Today is a day full of happy memories of our brother George. He led a remarkable life and was an inspiration to all. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Our brother was a devoted worker, teacher, friend, mentor, and a true mason and a great example of a boy scout. He left us early but he still leaves behind an impressive legacy.
My brother was a devotee of doing everything to one's best ability and a passionate believer to complete everything to its fullest. I saw this value in him as a young boy playing little league baseball. He had drawing skills that few knew about. When he was in college, he drew an abstract painting that his college professor wanted to buy from him. I will always treasure that painting because he decided to give it to me.
A week before he went to see the Lord, he and I reflected on some things. He told me that he had plans to start drawing again. It seems that he remembered that he had not finished restoring a small area on the drawing he had given me. I also remembered that he was concerned about his surgery. So I mentioned the St. Francis of Assisi statue to be erected at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. I reminded him how the St. Francis' prayer talks about peace, love, faith, hope and joy. He told me that he loved God and he was at peace. I now understand that he left instructions to the love of his life to let his grandson finish the restoration of the painting and to work on a painting of St. Francis. He was thinking about finishing things to its fullest. I know his grandson will terminate his endeavours.
George was a giving and caring person. I recalled how he was grateful for how two gentlemen guided him in early years as a customs officer. This experience helped him to do the same thing with other people.
My brother was very reserved and a quiet person. But there was no question how much he loved his family. His love for his wife, daughter and his grandson were of utmost priority. He would always ask me how the rest of our family were doing. I will miss him dearly. The coyote of the family will always be loved and remembered. He just went to see the Lord ahead of us. However, he will always be in our hearts. You see, our heart is like a chapel and full of beautiful memories. When we think of him, the chapel's door will open and all beautiful memories of him will come out. Those memories will make us feel joyful and find peace within our heart. We love you my dear Brother. May you rest in peace and the perpetual light shine upon you.
