Delia was a native to Brownsville where as a youth she became a dedicated stylist in the early 1950's. She loved styling and she herself enjoyed designing hairstyles at work and for family. In the 1970's she was a member of St. Luke's Women's Auxiliary where she helped with Bingo nights. In the 1980's she developed a love for floral design and worked downtown at a local floral stop next to the church where she stayed a decade. She is a cancer survivor of 1986 and her favorite past times were cooking, sewing, attending Friday football games and going to the flea market. In the 1990's she and her son Gilbert were owners of a mall popcorn cart and The Texican restaurant in San Benito where she managed it. She devoted her life to her family and grandchildren.
Delia is survived by her husband, Salvador Hernandez III; sons Salvador Hernandez Jr. (Delma) and Gilbert Hernandez; daughter Mariailsa Hernandez; grandchildren Donna Hernandez Flores, Dustin Milo Hernandez, Eric Garcia, and Isaac Garcia; sister in law Maria Luisa Alvarado and niece Ana A. Alvarado.
Delia was preceded in death by her mother Josephina Villarreal; brothers Manuel Alvarado and Eugenio Alvarado; nephew Alberto Alvarado; aunts Anita Rios, Maria Rios, Angelica Garcia; cousins Ruben Rios and cousin Rafael Rios.
A memorial service for Delia will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a chapel service at 12:00 p.m. in Chapel of Angels at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista, 125 Mcdavitt Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78521. Burial of ashes will occur at 1:00 p.m. at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 Mcdavitt Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78521.
