Angelica Chavez Garcia was welcomed home to our Lord’s heavenly kingdom Monday, August 7, 2023. Her earthly body can no longer keep her vivacious spirit from where it is destined to be… in the embrace of her amor, Guadalupe.
Her story began as she was born in Brownsville, Texas December 18, 1933 to Ciria and Leonardo Chavez. Angie, as she was known, spent her early childhood years with her brothers and sisters living both in the Rio Grande Valley and at the family ranch in Mexico. After a considerable number of relocations with the Air Force, Angie and Guadalupe would make Brownsville their home to raise their children: Juan, Carlos, Orlando, and Monica and remain married for 65 years. Sharing her husband’s passion for children and education, Angie would endeavor to become a Teaching Assistant at Castaneda and Victoria Elementary schools for nearly 20 years. She was always credited for having drawn the best holiday bulletin boards in the school. Creativity was one of her many gifts.
Angelica was a strikingly beautiful woman with a smile that could light up a room. She was outgoing and effervescent. And although she had a small stature, she was not easily intimidated. Angie was no one’s fool. She always had an “eye” on the happenings around her and her family. That awareness coupled with her faith and spirit guided her in protecting her loved ones.
Those of us who knew Angie well know that she was a lover of all things celebratory. She was not a fan of sitting still, which became a challenge for her in her later years. She loved music and dancing with anyone that would shake a leg with her. She was still showing off her moves just a few years back. Sitting to watch a movie was definitely not on her to-do list. After all the dancing, Angie loved to spend her free time shopping for deals at the local markets, which made her the giver of some very original gifts. Referred to by some as the “origin of longevity”, Angie bravely battled several health challenges throughout her years, always to come out the victor. This woman was the ultimate champion of love and family, and now with God’s blessing, she is with her amor once again. They are likely dancing together right now.
Angelica is preceded in death by both her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, her husband Guadalupe, and her son Juan. She is survived by her daughter Monica, and sons Orlando and Carlos. She has a living legacy through her children and grandchildren: Vincent, Daniel, Aaron, Christopher, Brittni, JG, Tina, Jackson, Madeline, and Emery.
Angelica, as His angels gathered at your side to guide you to your place in His everlasting kingdom, we hope you knew how impactful your life was to those you leave behind.
