Ted LeRoy Hazelton, affectionately known as Buddy by his family, passed away on June 30, 2024, at the age of 85. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. Ted will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Born on November 16, 1938 in the small town of Brooksville, Florida, Ted was a lifelong resident of Brooksville. He graduated from Hernando High School in 1957, where he served as class president.
Ted served his country with honor, having been drafted into the Army, Ted served for two years in Texas and Georgia.
He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Barbara Herndon-Hazelton, and a dedicated father to three daughters: Jolene, Debra, and Dora.
Ted's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, but his legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on. He will be remembered for his "no bones about it" way of life, infectious spirit, and the positive impact he had on everyone around him. His presence will be missed, but his memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
An avid fisherman, Ted knew the waters between Bayport and Chassahowitzka better than most people knew their way home. He always had a funny story for anyone willing to listen. A jack of all trades, Ted was skilled in woodworking, welding, and mechanics, and often referred to himself as the coordinator of all activities. His only fear was snakes.
Ted's favorite departure line to family and friends was a hearty "Glad you got to see me, now go tell your friends to build your reputation."
A service to celebrate Ted’s life will be held in Brooksville, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share the many stories of his remarkable life.
Ted always had a harmonica or juice harp handy. If you asked, he would remove his sweet-smelling pipe and play you a tune.
A Visitation for family and friend will be held from 10:00-11:30am, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Merritt Funeral Home, 2 South Lemon Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601, where Funeral Services begin at 11:30am.
