Suzanne was born to Rev. Hubert E. Hughes and Mrs. Irma (Householder) Hughes on August 19, 1949 in Marion, Indiana. On December 27, 1971 Suzanne married Robert A. Vardaman in Fort Collins, Colorado. Robert and Suzanne had a strong and faithful love for more than fifty years. Suzanne became a teacher and taught generations of students in Indiana, Oklahoma, and Puerto Rico. She loved teaching young children to read. Suzanne had a heart for those who were disadvantaged, who were far from family, or who just needed extra love. Suzanne had two daughters, but many more called her “Mom.” In addition to being a teacher, she served as a missionary in Puerto Rico, studied Spanish in Costa Rica, and worked as a migrant worker resource case manager in Indiana. Suzanne was a long-time resident of Marion, Indiana, where she was an active member of College Wesleyan Church for decades before moving to the warmer climate of Brooksville in 2021.
Suzanne is survived by her loving husband, Robert, of Brooksville, Florida; her daughters, Aimee (Alan) Williams, of Milovice, Czech Republic and Carin (Matthew) Hines, of Fishers, Indiana; grandchildren Toby, Benjamin, Katie, and David Williams of Milovice, Czech Republic and Ian, Silas, and Jesse Hines of Fishers, Indiana; her sisters, Beth (Karl) Houston of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Michelle Hughes of Urbana, Illinois; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, David (Kay) Vardaman of Marion, Indiana, Thomas (Lisa) Vardaman of Caseyville, Illinois, Paula (Jeff) Luttrell of Marion, Indiana, and Cynthia Vardaman of Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
