She was born in 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and with her husband Ken came to reside in Florida over 40 years ago. She retired from Hernando High School in Brooksville where she was a Culinary Arts teacher and, along with her students, created Hernandough Catering. She was fondly known as “Mrs. O” by her students and was honored to be “Outstanding Home Economics Teacher” in 1992. After retirement she continued her lifelong friendships with her Sorority Sisters from the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi (Wisconsin/Stout) who meant the world to her. She was a parishioner and member of the Choir at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Spring Hill for 30 years. She also was an avid seamstress and stitcher and enjoyed greatly her participation and friends with the Sandhill Crane Chapter of the Embroiders’ Guild of America and the Hernando Quilters Guild.
She was beloved by all of her family whom she shared a joy of spirit and optimism, silliness, and unconditional love. She taught many how to cook, sew, and do the dishes with joyful song.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth; her parents, Joseph and Lorraine (Huber) Banovich, and her brother, James W Banovich. She is survived by her stepchildren, Eric Oxendorf (Mary), Sandra Oxendorf Polito (Joe), and Susan Oxendorf Parsons (Herbert); sister-in-law, Jacqueline Banovich; granddaughters, Melanie Millard (Troy), Valerie Daniello (Ralph), Brenda Nakashima (Brett), and Leah Parsons; great-grandchildren, Noah, Gabriel, Aliana, Alexa, and Charlotte; nieces and nephews, Jim Banovich (Sandy), Patricia Delashmutt (Doug), Kathryn Gassner (Ken), Steve Banovich (Brenda), and Amy Tiernan (Jim).
A Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00-11:00am, Thursday, February 24, 2022 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, with Reverend David DeJulio officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at 12:30pm at Florida National Cemetery, with Deacon Ed Smith officiating.
