Steve was the second of three children of Tommy and Anna Smith. He was born and raised in Brooksville, Florida and loved growing up in a small town where he made lifelong friends. Steve worked hard all his life despite his illness. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years and was very well respected in his industry. His passion and precision made him known as the “Picasso of the Dirt.” This was something of which he was immensely proud of.
He also had many passions. Steve was a diehard Kansas City Chief’s fan, he enjoyed working in his barn & the garden he and his wife Bette planted, had a love for motorcycles especially Supercross but his family was his #1. Being a husband, father and papaw was his greatest source of achievement without a doubt. His wife Bette was the love of his life as he always said, “she saved me.”
He is survived and will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Bette; children, Renee Keylon (Kenny), Pattie Cagle (Kim), and Gina Smith; grandchildren, Kyle Keylon (Kelsey), Kory Keylon (Shelbie), Austin Moore (Charlie), and Hunter Cagle; great-grandchildren, Reese, Rowdie, Racie, and Kash; mother, Anna Smith; siblings, Cindy Murdock (David) and Gary Smith; uncle: JR Smith; niece, Erica Smith; nephews, John David (Charlotte) and John Thomas (Priscilla); as well as numerous relatives and friends. Steve was predeceased by his father, Tommy and brother, Little Tom.
