CHORVAT, Douglas Allen, Sr., age 70 of Brooksville, Florida died Friday, April 21, 2017 at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. He was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, but lived in the Brooksville area all of his life. Doug was owner & operator of Crossroad Towing and Stan’s Garage, was a volunteer firefighter in Masaryktown, then went on to work as a firefighter for both the City of Brooksville Fire Department and the Spring Hill Fire Station. He also worked as an auto mechanics teacher at Hernando High School, and as an avid sports fan was Coach of the baseball team. Doug loved all sports, and was of the Lutheran faith. Survivors include his wife: Linda Hale Chorvat; daughter: Kathryn A. Chorvat of Brooksville, FL; son & daughter-in-law: Douglas Allen, Jr. & Malinda Chorvat of Brooksville, FL; step-sons & daughter-in-law: Michael & Sandra Smith of Webster, FL and Jimmy Smith of Brooksville, FL; brother: Stanley J. Chorvat of Masaryktown, FL; sisters: Vikki Farrow of Spring Hill, FL and Kelly Drier of Tallahassee, FL; 7 grandchildren: Zachary, Austyn, Blake, Brad, Jenna, Makenna & Conner. The family will receive friends 5-6pm, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel, where memorial service will begin at 6:00pm with Pastor David Franklin officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society or All Children’s Hospital.
