Donald Nickel, 74, of Brooksville, FL formerly of Mishawaka, passed away February 3, 2018 after an extended illness.
Donald was born June 24, 1943 in Woodland, IN to the late Wilfred and Opal (Foust) Nickel. He was also preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Donald was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Anchorage, AK. On November 19, 1966, he married the love of his life, Nancy Weglowski. She survives him along with a son and daughter-in-law: Aaron and Wendi Nickel of Mishawaka, IN, daughter and son-in-law Carmen and Brian Cox of Lowell, IN; three grandchildren: Donald, Destiney, and Dantevoin Cox; several aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Michiana area.
Donald was retired from Rockwell Automation in 2005 after more than 40 years. After moving to Florida, he worked as a pool monitor at the Brookridge Clubhouse. Donald enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of the Dodge Golf Leagues. He was a lifelong sports fan and loved watching the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame football team and the Tampa Bay Rays. Donald loved to travel and be adventurous with his family. He was only one state away from his goal of visiting all 50 states. Donald also enjoyed going to Nascar and drag races with his son.
Donald will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and friend always willing to help. He will also be remembered for his quick wit, easy going personality and wonderful sense of direction.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Humane Society. A celebration of life for Donald will be announced at a later date.
