Christine "Christy" Marie Galmish

Christine "Christy" Marie Galmish, 50, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed into the loving arms of Jesus and Mary on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, following emergency surgery. 

She was born on November 25, 1970 in Geneva, Illinois and moved to Florida with her family in 1973.  She married the love of her life, Robert Galmish, in 1999 and they had three beautiful children, Alexis, Michael, and Hannah.  She is also survived by her parents, Mike and Sandy Tobin of Crystal River, FL; two brothers, Jim Tobin (Amy) of Greenville, SC and Danny Tobin (Elizabeth) of Homosassa, FL; ten precious nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.  She is preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Michael, who died in infancy. 

Christy was a full-time Mom whose greatest joy in life was her family.  Her favorite pastime was being involved with her children’s school and sports activities.  She volunteered countless hours at Notre Dame Catholic School and was “Team Mom” for many of the children’s sports teams.  Prior to having a family, Christy was the Assistant Tour Director for Pilgrimage Tours, Inc. where she assisted her parents with religious pilgrimages to Medjugorje (Bosnia & Hercegovina) as well as Rome, Assisi and other Catholic shrines in Italy, Fatima, and the Holy Land.  She was also involved in humanitarian work during and after the Bosnian war, helping to bring children to this country for life-saving medical treatment and delivering food, medicine and other necessities of life to refugees and other victims of that war. 

A member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Spring Hill, Christy loved her Catholic Faith and had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.  She could be best described as a “giver.”  If you needed a home-cooked meal or a helping hand, you didn’t even need to ask.  One of her favorite activities was joining her husband in delivering meals and smiles to the home-bound on Thanksgiving.  Her quick wit and (sometimes “wacky”) sense of humor could make even the darkest day turn bright. 

Christy hung a sign on the wall in the family dining room that perfectly describes her attitude and personality. 

It reads:

LIVE like Heaven is on earth.  LOVE like you have never been hurt.

LAUGH like no one is listening.  SING as if no one can hear.

DANCE as if no one is watching.  DREAM like nothing is impossible.

PLAY like there are no winners.  GIVE like you have plenty.

SMILE ‘til your face hurts.  CHERISH your family and friends every day.

That was Christy.  She will live in the hearts of all who loved her forever.

A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00am, Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Merritt Funeral Home, Spring Hill Chapel, 4095 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:30am at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill.  Burial will follow at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, also in Spring Hill.

Due to Covid a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilgrims’ Peace Center, 9132 W Wisteria Lane, Crystal River, FL 34429, marked “Galmish Fund”.
